Decline to sign a document

Refuse a signing request and tell the sender why.

To decline a SignQuick request, open your signing link, select Decline to sign, add an optional reason and confirm; this can't be undone.

Decline a signing request

  1. Step 1: Open the signing link from your invitation email.
  2. Step 2: If the page asks for a code, enter it as described in Sign a document sent to you.
  3. Step 3: In the consent notice, select I Agree to use electronic records and signatures; this doesn't sign the document.
  4. Step 4: If your browser asks to share your location, allow or block it.
  5. Step 5: On the signing page, select Decline to sign.
  6. Step 6: Optionally, explain why in Reason (optional); the sender sees it.
  7. Step 7: In the Decline to sign? dialog, select Decline to Sign.

Result: The page shows You Declined This Document, and the sender gets an email with your reason, if you gave one.

Common questions

What if the request should go to someone else?

Don't decline. On the signing page, select I'm not the right person to sign this, so the sender can replace you. Sign a document sent to you explains that request.

What if I don't want to sign electronically?

In the consent notice, select Decline and exit. Nothing is signed, the sender isn't notified and the request stays open. To sign on paper, contact the sender; to continue online, select Return to document.
